West Jefferson celebrates Christmas in July with tree-baling competitions, local mountain music, Civil War re-enactments, clogging, arts and crafts vendors, and lots of food.
| We found the best place to hang out just below the library parking lot, in the shade, on a pine straw slope with great sound reception of the Main Stage where Wayne Henderson was playing. |
The Lebanese-Greek gyros were amazing!
Crusoe would take the shirt off MB's back for another bite.
With a full stomach and some great tunes, who can help but drift off to sleep?

WARNING: the following photos are not for the squeamish.
On Friday 6th, Finn burned her toes on a metal slide at Ashe Co. Park.
(She was barefoot, of course.) She got 3 blisters on each foot, same toes.
Maribeth took her to the ER and said that Finn screamed for almost an hour.
In the ER, they wrapped her feet in wet washcloths,
and Finn occasionally still demonstrates this to us in the bathtub. They eventually gave her some tylenol with codeine and after about 20 minutes she looked up at mb and with a look of wonder said, "Mama, you have beautiful eyes. You have a long nose. You have beautiful hair." (That was the moment that mb knew that she was feeling better.) She also started commenting on the beautiful color of the walls and the nurse's scrubs. Turns out, codeine gives her energy, good manners, and a little extra appreciation of beauty.

[They all healed nicely well before we went to the beach on July 14.]
Be prepared.

Whew! Now, that wasn't so bad, was it?
And, now back to our regularly scheduled blog post....
We went to the cabin in the evening for a delicious supper of Pat's sauteed squash and rutabagas.
Finn ate every bite.
